COME SING WITH US!

Grace Chorale of Brooklyn welcomes anyone who enjoys to sing!

We sing a variety of music, ranging from classic choral staples to newly commissioned pieces. If you have a passion for choral harmony and are interested in expressing yourself through singing, we would love to have you. As a new member, you’ll broaden both your musical knowledge and improve your vocal technique, all in a relaxed, inclusive, and welcoming setting.  Prior choral experience is not necessary!

We are primarily welcoming tenors and basses for the Spring 2025 semester, though there may be some openings for sopranos and altos as well (sopranos and altos will be placed on a waitlist if no immediate spots are available). Our Spring 2025 season begins on January 8, 2025.

You can sign up to meet with the Membership Committee and Jason Asbury, our music director, for the Spring 2025 semester by completing the form located here. The dates available to join are: Wednesday, January 8, 15, or 22. We will reach out in December to confirm date/time details with you.

If you have any questions or are looking for more information please email us: joinus@gracechorale.org

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are held at 254 Hicks Street, Brooklyn Heights (at Grace Church) on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00pm. For rehearsals to run smoothly and be productive, it is important for all members to arrive on time. We routinely zoom the rehearsals so that if you are unable to attend you will not miss out.

MEMBER DUES

The dues are $150 per semester* (each season comprises two semesters, fall and spring) which includes the music scores and three tickets per semester for guests to attend our concert. We have scholarships available so that everyone can afford to sing with us. Please don’t hesitate to ask us by emailing joinus@gracechorale.org.

Choristers under the age of 30 pay half price.

FAQ

Do I need to be able to sight-read or read music in order to join?
Not at all! Many of our current choir members started without those skills and learned as they went along. We believe that with enthusiasm and dedication, you’ll find that learning to sight-read and read music is an achievable and rewarding journey. Our choir is all about the joy of singing and growing together as a community, so don’t let any concerns hold you back – we’re here to support and guide you every step of the way. There are recorded tracks posted on the website for each voice part to help you learn the music.

What if I can’t afford the dues?
As mentioned above, we have scholarships available so that everyone can afford to sign with us. Please don’t hesitate to ask us (joinus@gracechorale.org).

What if I can’t make it to all the rehearsals?
While we strongly encourage regular attendance to ensure the cohesiveness of our performances, we also recognize that life can sometimes present challenges and obligations that may affect your ability to be present at every rehearsal. If you aren’t able to attend a rehearsal, that’s OK! We provide zoom recordings for each of our rehearsals that you can review. In addition, our section leads will send out rehearsal notes as needed.

Am I expected to attend every performance for the semester?
Attendance at every concert is not mandatory, but we would love for you to be able to sing with us on concert dates. We always provide the dates and expected repertoire before the semester starts.

Do I need to buy a special outfit/tuxedo/gown for performance?
Concert dress is usually all black, but there is no specific attire required.
